Orphans and Vulnerable Children

The belief in our institution, the very strongly held belief, is the issue that preschool education, and education in those early years, is absolutely crucial for the development of children.

The AIDS epidemic, wars and other threats are likely to rob as many as 20 million children of their parents by 2015 in Africa alone. Mr. Wolfensohn has aligned the Bank's efforts to protect and support vulnerable children with those of the Millennium Development Goals and the Framework for Protection of Children, jointly produced by the Bank and UNICEF.
