The objective of the Forum was to bring together donors, Bank staff, and Tanzanian and East Africancounterparts to discuss progress and challenges in environmental, poverty, and social aspects inwhich the TFESSD has been providing support, foster south-south learning, and gain a betterunderstanding of knowledge transfer and capacity building in Africa. The Forum focused on howpractical knowledge and capacity can promote synergies between environmental and socialsustainability in Tanzania and neighboring countries. Leading into the Rio+20 conference next year,this Forum highlighted the critical role of knowledge in helping countries achieve the vision of sustainable development for all people.
