MDG 8 - Global Partnership

Global Partnership

DDVE contributes to global partnerships towards reaching the MDGs by being the World Bank’s focal point for dialogue on development issues with faith-based leaders, communities, and institutions. Since 2000, DDVE has cultivated a wide network of partnerships and dialogues with faith-based groups, and more recently, the unit has launched a program of in-depth analytical work on these issues in order to better inform policy at the country, regional and global level.

DDVE also makes available on its website a number of papers and publications sponsored by the World Bank that deal with issues related to global partnerships as well as the media, but with a focus on the interplay between faith, opinion making and development. One example is a recent paper on the factors affecting attitudes towards foreign aid in developing nations (see DDVE Working Paper 2008-12). Another example is a paper on market forces and news media in Muslim countries that was published as part of a recent World Bank book on “Information and Public Choice: From Media Markets to Policy Making” (see DDVE Study 2008-3).

DDVE also regularly participates in a wide range of seminars, workshops and conferences related to the efforts needed to achieve the MDGs (see Seminars, Workshops, and Conferences since 2008). Beyond activities initiated by DDVE staffs, the unit serves as a clearinghouse to share and disseminate knowledge acquired at the World Bank on the interconnections between ethics, faith   and development and to provide technical assistance for partnerships and policy dialogues that occur at the sectoral, regional, and country-level.
