

    - READ THE CONFERENCE REPORT Cape Town, South Africa, May 2007 - The 7th Annual Conference of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank, brought together 200 parliamentarians from around the world with representatives from the World Bank, the African Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund, other multilateral organizations, academia, civil society and the private sector. Parliamentarians debated what they could do to promote action on pressing development issues, and to help strengthen the accountability and transparency of international financial institutions. Hosted by the Parliament of South Africa, the conference was organized by PNoWB, in collaboration with the World Bank, the African Development Bank and South Africa’s Parliament and Ministry of Treasury.

    The Annual Conference doubles as PNoWB’s general assembly. The Network reviewed the progress report of its activities since the last meeting in October 2005, and elected a new board. The conference came at a key time in 2007: South Africa will chair the G 20 presidency; Germany will hold the G8 presidency with a special focus on Africa. Germany will also hold the EU Presidency for the first half of 2007; The Board of the World Bank discussed the Africa Action Plan and the new World Bank strategy for Africa just prior to the conference; IDA 15 replenishment discussions will be beginning; The World Bank's Board will review a draft progress report on the World Bank's new governance and corruption (GAC) strategy in March. The Development Committee has requested a report when it next meets during the Spring Meetings on April 15, 2007 in Washington.

March 15, 2007Â - Ritva Reinikka, Country Director for South Africa with H.E. Trevor Manuel, South Africa's Minister of Finance at an official dinner hosted by H.E. Manuel at the occasion of the Annual Conference of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank, being held in Cape Town. 
March 16, 2007Â - Mr. Wolfowitz signs the South African National Assembly's guest book as the Deputy Speaker Honorable Mahlangu-Nkabinde looks on. Behind them are African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka, Dr. Mamphela Ramphele, and Norbert Moa, Chair of Uganda's Gulu District.
