Annual Conferences General

PNoWB Annual Conferences seek to identify what parliamentarians can do to promote action on development and global issues, and help to strengthen the accountability and transparency of international financial institutions by providing a platform for dialogue. PNoWB Annual conferences are hailed as one of the most ambitious and fruitful parliamentary platforms for dialogue on development.

The annual gathering brings together about 200 MPs with development leaders such as the heads of the Bank, IMF, WTO, regional Banks (AfDB, ADB), and heads of state (for example, the presidents of Brazil, Senegal and Indonesia have spoken at previous conferences) to identify what parliamentarians can do to promote action on pressing development and global issues. Representatives from the private sector, inter-parliamentary organizations, media and civil society also attend along with several senior staff of International Financial Institutions.

Past conferences have been held in the Netherlands (2000), the UK (2001), Switzerland (2002), Greece (2003), France (2004), Finland (2005) and South Africa (2007).

Major topics addressed during the annual conferences include: accountability, governance, resources flows, debt relief, etc.... A steering committee comprised of PNoWB, World Bank staff, partner organizations, CSOs as well as representatives from the host country’s parliament and Government set up the program of the conference.
