Brussels - Jarl Krausing discussed biodiversity financing with MEPs

Begins:   Nov 08, 2011
Ends:   Nov 08, 2011

On November 8, Team Leader for Global Climate Policy Jarl Krausing represented the Bank in a seminar on 'Implementing CBD COP10 outcomes in Developing countries: Which strategy for resource mobilisation?' organized by the European Parliament's Intergroup on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development. The event was hosted by senior MEP Charles Goerens (Luxembourg, liberals) and attended by approximately 50 MEPs, advisors, and international NGO representatives. In his presentation, which was very well received by both the audience and the other panelists, Jarl Krausing focused on the Bank's work on biodiversity, innovative resource mobilization as well as the WAVES and OCEANS programmes. Other speakers on the panel included representatives from UNEP, the European Commission, IUCN and the Nature Conservancy. Most panelists agreed that the biodiversity funding gap cannot be bridged by ODA alone, that more research should be carried out to determine its exact size, and that the focus should be on innovative financing mechanisms in order to overcome it in the long run
