Residential Summer School for Parliamentary PACs, Australia

The World Bank Institute (WBI) in partnership with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Center for Democratic Institutions (CDI) and the Deakin University, will conduct the 7th Residential Summer School for Parliamentary Public Accounts Committees, which will take place in Australia from February 5-11, 2012. This event will bring together approximately 44 participants from the South Asia region.
The Program will focus on building effective Public Accounts Committees as the Parliament’s primary means of financial scrutiny of the Executive. It will combine both the theoretical and the practical, with a four-day retreat style raining course.

The Sumer School is aimed at Chairs and Members of Public Accounts Committees, Auditors-General and Audit Office staff, and Public Accounts Committees staffs.

Areas to be covered in the 2012 program include:
- Understanding budgets and good practice in the budget information
- Working with the Auditor General
- Overcoming impediments to PAC effectiveness
- How can a PAC add value to audits?
- Empowering Public Accounts Committees
- Developing country Action Plans for the Public Accounts Committees.
