Workshop for doctoral students doing research on the World Bank
On September 18, at the occassion of the World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings in Singapore, a workshop was held, whereby 17 young researchers presented and discussed their work about the World Bank. Summary of the workshop

Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics, Tokyo, Japan Thanks to the support of the Japanese Ministry of Finance, the ABCDE was held for the first time in East Asia on May 29-30, 2006 at Mita House in Tokyo. Over the two days, nearly 900 people participated in the conference, marking an attendance record in the history of the ABCDE.
The RAD has been actively participating in the organization of the ABCDE: a) Chair of the RAD Steering Committee, Odd-Helge Fjeldstad, has contributed to the final shape of the program through his work in the Advisory Committee of the ABCDE Tokyo; b) RAD members have organized 3 parallel sessions at ABCDE 2006: ‘Infrastructure and Governance’ (Odd-Helge Fjeldstad), ‘Transit Migration and the Economy of Transit Countries’ (Philippe Fargues) and ‘China and India Impact In Developing Countries: Africa, Asia And Latin America’ (Javier Santiso); c) RAD member, Joyashree Roy, Jadavpur University, India, chaired the plenary session on ‘Rural Infrastructure and Agricultural Development’.

During ABCDE 2006 (Tokyo), representatives of academic networks (RAD, International Association of University Presidents, Association of Commonwealth Universities, EADI and ASEAN University Network met with François Bourguignon, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist, The World Bank; Ian Goldin, Vice President, External Affairs, Communications and United Nations Affairs, The World Bank; Yukio Yoshimura, Special Representative, Japan, The World Bank; and Alan H. Gelb, Director, Development Policy, The World Bank. Representatives of the Japanese Ministry of Finance were also present: Kyoto Ido, Director General, International Bureau and Koichi Hasegawa, Director, Development Institutions, Division, International Bureau.

Development Compact Seminar, Paris, France On May 2-3, 2006, the World Bank organized a Compact Seminar together with the Sorbonne Pantheon University, Paris-1, RAD member institution, for graduate (research major) students of development studies.

Triennal Conference of the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), July 11-15, 2005, Bangkok The Challenge of Globalization and the Role of Higher Education was the theme of the conference organized by the IAUP, member organization of the RAD since March 2005. The very timely topic highlighted the need for partnership-building as an important tool to enhance development results, in both the performance of higher education systems and their critical role in today's' knowledge economies.

During ABCDE 2005 (Amsterdam), representatives of academic networks (IAUP, AUF, Global Union Research Network and the Coimbra Group met with François Bourguignon, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist, The World Bank. 
Seminar for PhD Researchers in Budapest, Hungary, Central European University, Budapest, April 1-2, 2005 The Workshop provided a unique opportunity to meet researchers who conduct research on World Bank programs, policies and operations from a variety of disciplines. The meeting, which gathered research colleagues from institutions worldwide and Bank staff proved to be very successful. This event was jointly organized with the Center for Policy Studies at Central European University and the Center for the Study of Globalization and Regionalization at the University of Warwick 

Development Compact Seminar, Kiev, Ukraine Compact Seminar for graduate students at Kiev Mohyla Business School, Kiev, Ukraine, was held under the title “Development Challenges in Ukraine and in Eastern Europe. Which Role for Multilateral and Bilateral Agencies and for the Private Sector?”. The seminar aimed to introduce the World Bank and its operations in Ukraine to the students as well as discuss the business climate in Ukraine and the region. Speakers included senior World Bank and IFC staff, private sector representatives as well as members of parliament and academics. About 50 students took part in the seminar.
