The EU/Bank cooperation has broadened and deepened from an initially rather exceptional ad hoc information exchange to high-level policy dialogue and coordination on global issues. Partnership now extends to all the EU institutions: the EIB and, increasingly, the Council (advocacy on development issues through the Working Groups, the informal Development Council, and the Presidencies) and the Parliament (through attendance to key Committee meetings).
Today, there is a coherent and structured set of thematic partnerships—involving operational collaboration and upstream policy dialogue. This partnership is particularly strong in the areas of trade, infrastructure and debt.
