21 March 2005 - Youth Open House at World Bank Brussels Office

The World Bank’s Brussels Office opened its doors to youth organizations in an Open House event on 21 March 2005.

Participants included the European Youth Forum, the Belgian Association of Senegalese students, AISEC and UNOY Peacebuilders. The main aims of event, which also took place in 64 of the World Bank’s country offices, were to:

  • To allow youth organizations to present themselves, outline their plans for contributing to the development agenda, and learn about the World Bank and its activities involving youth;
  • To allow the World Bank to present its role and mission, how it operates, and its ideas on how young people can contribute to the Bank's work with key youth organizations;
  • To provide the Bank and youth organizations with the opportunity to discuss areas of collaboration in the context of the Youth Development and Peace (YDP) Network at the country level.
 The Bank presented the YDP’s mission as to:
  • Create direct interaction among youth organizations, the Bank and other partners; and to
  • Facilitate youth participation in projects, policy design and youth advocacy for development

The youth organisations presented their activities areas of works such as HIV/AIDS, conflict management and education and provided suggestions on working with the World Bank’s Brussels office. Participants agreed to meet again in the coming months to review proposals on how to strengthen collaboration.
