 At a European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee Hearing on EC funding for Palestine, Ms Akiko Maeda World Bank - Health, Nutrition & Population Sector Manager for the Middle East and North Africa Region, and Ms Rania Kharma – Representative of the Palestinian Authority briefed European Parliamentarians on the Emergency Services Support Program Multi-Donor Trust Fund – ESSP-MDTF. While acknowledging constraints in disbursement and challenges posed by the lack of security, the speakers’ key message was that the Multi-Donor ESSP-MDTF offered the best possible opportunity to maintain the consistency of the basic human services to the Palestinian people.
 This view was supported by a majority of the parliamentarians who took the floor. The hearing was organized to provide input for the Foreign Affairs Committee Opinion drafted by Belgian MEP Veronique De Keyser on Financial Support to Palestine.
