Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR)

The WB Brussels office acts as Focal Point for Europe for the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), a partnership of 24 countries, the United Nations, the European Commission and the World Bank, committed to helping developing countries reduce their vulnerability to natural hazards and adapt to climate change.

GFDRR provides global knowledge and good practices, technical and financial assistance to high-risk low- and middle-income countries based on a business model of ex-ante support to high risk countries to mainstream disaster risk reduction in national development strategies and investments, and ex post disaster assistance for sustainable recovery.

GFDRR also supports initiatives for enhanced global and regional cooperation, and promote greater South-South Cooperation in disaster risk reduction in the disaster-prone countries and regions.

The GFDRR Brussels office coordinates relations with EU donors, the European Commission and the ACP Secretariat both on disaster prevention and post-disaster recovery and reconstruction programs.
