Summary of DM2007 Applicants

The 2007 Development Marketplace Global Competition (DM2007) proposal application window was open Sept 20 - Nov 21, 2006, and resulted in the submission of a record-breaking 2868 proposals. A summary of the proposals is provided below.

 

bullet Implementation Region

DM2007 received 2868 proposals from 120 countries worldwide. Roughly one-third of the applicants proposed implementation in 42 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. There was a sharp rise in the share of proposals from East Asia and the Pacific compared to previous years, with nearly a quarter of the submissions.

bullet Top 20 Countries of Implementation (by number of proposals)

India, Indonesia and Kenya were the top three countries with the most submissions with Nigeria and China rounding out the top five. This is the first time for China to reach to top five. Participation from Pakistan, Mongolia, Tanzania and West Bank & Gaza increased with those countries making it to the top 20 for the first time this year.

bullet Primary Applicants by Organization Type

As in the past, non-governmental organizations were the main source of applicants, however this is their largest showing, with roughly two-thirds of the implementing organizations coming from the non-profit sector.
