The 17th Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (ABCDE) was held in Dakar, Senegal on January 27, 2005. One of the world's best-known conferences on development, the ABCDE was being held for the first time in an African country, and for the second time in a developing country (ABCDE 2003 was held in Bangalore, India).
The change in locale reflects the growing importance of research done in developing countries and the desire to bring such conferences closer to participants in the developing world. Eminent scholars, policymakers, and practitioners from around the world presented new research findings and discussed key policy issues related to development at the conference.
The overall theme of the Dakar conference was Growth and Integration. More about the agenda and participants.
