Global Economic Prospects and the Developing Countries 2001 reviews the global economic environment and its implications for the developing countries over the next decade, and examines how technological innovations and the dismantling of trade barriers over the past decade have contributed to an acceleration of growth in global trade. The report focuses on international trade and discusses policies that are required if developing countries are to benefit from global integration.


The World Bank Development Prospects Group prepared this report. William Shaw was the lead author and manager of the report, under the direction of Uri Dadush. The report was prepared under the general guidance of the Chief Economist and Senior Vice President, Nicholas Stern. Core team members and chapter authors included Ataman Aksov, Hans Timmer and Dominique van der Mensbrugghe.
