The 16th Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (ABCDE) was held at the World Bank's Headquarters in Washington, D.C. from May 3-4, 2004. The overall theme was "Lessons of Experience".
The ABCDE, inaugurated by the Bank's President, James D. Wolfensohn, featured keynote addresses by the Bank's Chief Economist, François Bourguignon and Nobel laureate Vernon Smith, as well as papers by Richard Cooper of Harvard University, Gustav Ranis of Yale University, Sendhil Mullainathan of MIT, Remy Prud'homme of the University of Paris, and Riccardo Faini of University of Rome.
