This site presents the results of an ongoing project to document levels, inequalities, and trends in educational attainment and enrollment around the world. The project is housed in the Development Research Group of the World Bank and has benefitted from funding from the research group as well as the Research Support Budget of the World Bank.
The project originally presented results derived exclusively from the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS), but since early 2005 these have been complemented with results from the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) and selected Integrated Household Surveys (IHS). While the goal is to include as many data sets as possible, the actual data sets included here are done so on an ad-hoc basis.
The results are the product of the researchers' best efforts to accurately process and analyze data from the large number of raw data sets, and present them in an easy to use format. They are neither official data released by national statistical offices, nor formal World Bank data.
