BEATRIZ ÁVALOS-SARTORIO is a Senior Agricultural Research Officer at the CGIAR’s Science Council Secretariat. She is an Agronomist, and has a PhD in Applied Economics from Stanford University. She has studied and worked on agricultural and natural resource policy issues for over 20 years. Her research interests include agricultural and trade policy analysis, microeconomics of technology adoption, and shade coffee production systems in Latin America. She worked for the Mexican government on international trade and agricultural policy negotiations (NAFTA, Uruguay Round and OECD), and until recently, was University Professor and Head of Graduate Studies at Universidad del Mar, a public university in Oaxaca, México
