KAREN MACOURS is assistant professor of international economics at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University. Her research focuses on rural development issues in Central America, Eastern Europe, and South Asia, with focus on land and labor markets, property rights and conflict, and quantitative impact evaluations of development programs. She received her PhD in agricultural and resource economics from the University of California at Berkeley.
