LUC CHRISTIAENSEN, from Belgium, is a Senior Economist in the Rural Development Unit in East Asia at the World Bank. Before, he was Senior Poverty Economist based in the World Bank Office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for three years, where he managed a series of studies on the role of agriculture, vulnerability, and population growth in poverty reduction in African countries. His area of expertise is applied economics with empirical and policy focused applications in the fields of agricultural production, food security, and child malnutrition, largely concentrated on Sub Saharan Africa. He has a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Cornell University.
