DINA UMALI-DEININGER is Lead Agricultural Economist in the South Asia Sustainable Development Department, where she oversees the analytical work on agricultural development. She is the author of several World Bank reports on agriculture and rural development policy in India and Sri Lanka, most recently the report "India Taking Agriculture to the Market.” Her other areas of research work focuses on the public/private sector nexus in the delivery of agricultural research, extension and livestock services. Prior to joining the South Asia region, she worked on agricultural and rural development policy issues in East Asia and Eastern Europe. She is co-chair of the Rural Policies Thematic Group. She received her Ph.D. in Applied Economics from Stanford University.
