Mediterranean Environmental Technical Assistance Program (METAP)

Strengthening the capacity of Mediterranean countries to address common environmental issues

 

Founded in 1990, METAP - the Mediterranean Environmental Technical Assistance Program – is an innovative partnership between countries of the Mediterranean region and multilateral donors.

 

METAP has attracted investments to pursue a healthier Mediterranean environment topping 1 billion USD, in only 18 years, covering over 35 projects, and accruing running costs under USD 65 million.

SMAP III Regional Seminar on Achievements and Perspectives for the Future on June 29-30  , 2009 at

Villa Valmer, Marseilles, France

 

The obective of the seminar is to present and discuss the way forward beyond SMAP III and the importance of linking SMAP results and experience with new upcoming initiatives of the EC and other donors, such as the EC new Mediterranean program and the proposed financial support mechanism, Horizon 2020, the new WB/GEF Sustainable MED and the Marseilles Knowledge Center. Furthermore,  key results of SMAP and ICZM were disseminated to high policy level officials in the countries of the region.  A maximum number of 35 participants from Government officials, mid-level managers, and  executing partners attended the seminar. ...
