Uruguay: Third Basic Education Quality Improvement Project

WASHINGTON, October 20, 2009 - The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved the following project:

 

Uruguay: Third Basic Education Quality Improvement Project

 

IBRD Loan: US$29.9 million 

Terms: Maturity = 22.5 years; Grace Period = 13 years

Project Description: The Basic Education Quality Improvement Project in Uruguay will increase the equity, quality and efficiency of preschool and primary education in Uruguay. This will be achieved through school-level interventions to raise education quality in schools servicing socio-economically disadvantaged students, the enhancement of the teacher training systems and the introduction of new teaching and learning instruments in the classroom, and an increase in the efficiency of primary education institutions.
