WASHINGTON, October 20, 2009 - The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved the following project:

 

Argentina: PTUMA – Metropolitan Areas Urban Transport Project

 

IBRD Loan: US$150 million 

Terms: Maturity = 30 years; Grace Period = 5 years

Project ID: P095485

 

Project Description: The objective of the Metropolitan Areas Urban Transport Project in Argentina is to improve the quality and sustainability of urban transport systems in Argentine metropolitan areas.  By the creation of a Metropolitan Transport Agency (MTA) for the Buenos Aires metropolitan area, the capacity for transportation planning and management at the metropolitan level will be strengthened. The urban transport improvements in Argentina's medium-size metropolitan areas will addresses issues such as the underinvestment in road maintenance and road infrastructure, increased traffic congestion in urban areas, the decreasing quality of public transport service and the limited intermodal integration.
