The organizations that make up the World Bank Group are owned by the governments of member nations, which have the ultimate decision-making power within the organizations on all matters, be they policy, financial, or membership issues.

The World Bank Group serves 30 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), where average per capita income is about $3,300 a year. With about 128 million of the region's 525 million people living in poverty (defined as living on less than $2 a day), of whom 50 million are extremely poor (less than $1 a day), the World Bank's loans and analytical work
support local efforts by governments, civil society and the private sector, to empower people and communities, while also improving the investment climate to accelerate growth and reduce poverty.
