Appendix A: Overview of Monitoring and Evaluation in the World Bank

Monitoring and evaluation are joint responsibilities of the borrower and the Bank. In the case of evaluations, IEG reviews and validates self-evaluations prepared by the Bank with inputs from the borrower(s). The Bank has in place policies and procedures on monitoring and evaluation at the instrument (loans/credits, studies and other Analytical and Advisory Activities), the country and global levels. Key elements of the Bank's monitoring and evaluation system are summarized in Tables 1 and 2. A more detailed overview is provided in Appendix A of the AROE.
