Why does the Bank continue to lend to China when its economy continues to expand and it spends billions on a space program?
Although China has seen rapid economic growth, there are still more than 160 million people living on less than one dollar a day. The Bank's lending to China is not only a conduit for resources to help improve public services, it's also a means to transfer knowledge, build institutions, share experience and support innovation at a critical time in China's transition.
