  I am pleased to announce the appointment of Sharada Sundar as Manager, Pension Administration (PENAD), in the Treasury Vice Presidency. PENAD provides a full range of support functions for the administration of the Staff Retirement Plan and the Post-Employment Benefit Plan and also provides some support services for the Retired Staff Benefits Plan. These Plans cover approximately 14,000 active staff and 8,000 retirees around the world. PENAD determines and administers the payment of pension benefits to retirees, accounts for the pension benefit payments, and provides a comprehensive educational program to disseminate the plan provisions to participants in the headquarters and country offices. PENAD has staff located in the Bank’s offices in Washington, DC and Chennai, India.  Mrs. Sundar, an Indian national, joined the Bank in 1996 as Projects Assistant in the Pension Administration Department. She has since held various positions in Treasury, her most recent assignment being Senior Pension Administration Officer in PENAD. Since Kerry Mack’s departure, she has also been holding the Acting Manager’s responsibilities for the department.  In this position, Mrs. Sundar‘s top three priorities will be: (i) to deliver exceptional retirement services to a global clientele through a balance of face to face interactions and on-line resources; (ii) to effectively streamline processes, improve internal controls, provide strategic direction to the implementation of policies related to retirement benefits, and provide an enhanced platform to serve as a knowledge source for pension policies and procedures; and (iii) to provide leadership to a dynamic team of professionals by nurturing an environment conducive to creative thinking and innovative ideas.  Mrs. Sundar was selected to this position through the Bank-wide competitive managerial selection process.
