How long have you been with the WBFN?
About 28 years when my husband got a job at the World Bank as a YP, and we moved to the area. |
What programs did you like most?
Some of the events I remember well are my visit to the Library of Congress, annual luncheon meetings, MMMF fairs, floral arranging, fashion shows, a special charity luncheon where I learned to dance the Salsa, and a huge ball to celebrate WBFN's 25th anniversary. I must add that many of these events were planned and executed by Vim Maguire and her helpers. Â |
Have you been active with WBFN?
Over the years I've been to many, many programs and hosted events in my home and did some nutrition presentations. |
How did this group start?
Our group started more than 15 years ago by the wife of the Headmaster of St. Albans School. She started playing with some friends, and the group continued year after year with new members joining as others moved away. |
Are all the players from the World Bank?
No, we have people from all over. Some are affiliated with an embassy, others with the French school, and others are RN, stay at home mom, real estate agent, translator, business person and retired persons. |
How many are there in your group? How often do you meet?
There are about 18 members. We meet once a week on Wednesday mornings at 9:30-11:00 am at a local gym. |
Do you do anything together afterwards?
Sometimes the group goes to Starbucks afterwards. About four times a year we have a potluck in someone's home. We talk and get to know each other in a different way...without out rackets in our hands! |
Why do you like this group especially?
It's great camaraderie and everyone gets to play. We play in doubles teams, and switch partners after a game. |
And you like leading this team?
It's fun coordinating the group. |
I wish I played badminton so I could join your group!
You can come as a beginner. If you play a racket sport, you pick up the sport quickly. If you want more info contact Elizabeth or call the office at 202-473-8751. |
