Come, Learn, Improve, Practice a Foreign Language

WBFN language classes include English, French, and Spanish. In the past we have also offered Chinese. Classes are offered according to demand and the availability of instructors. With the exception of some of the English classes, these classes are taught by WBFN volunteers and are free of charge to the participants.

Survival English “Plus”

English
Would you like to improve your English? This 12-week course is intended for lower intermediate students and above. It combines lively conversation, the study of grammar and new vocabulary. Each week students discuss a topic of interest: life in Washington, health schools housing, what to do... so, for newcomers to Washington, this is a particularly useful course. Students meet once a week for approximately two hours at the Family Network Office. Click here for more details.

Advanced English / Introduction to Literature
Held in a WBFN member's home, this group meets once each week for approximately two hours, generally in the morning. Class members read essays-including writings about US history. Discussions are stimulating and lively. The weekly association encourages friendship. Click here for more details.
English Classes: Speak, Listen, Read and Write spacer
These classes focus on the four skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Grammer is included within the teaching of these four skills. NEW - Business English: Communicating in Business
Learn to communicate in a US business setting – business norms and language. It can be very different from your country of origin. If you are considering employment, or are already employed, in a US organization, and your current level of fluency is intermediate or higher, this 24-hour course will help you master the basics of business communication. Spanish for Beginners

Spanish Held in a WBFN member's home, this group meets once each week for approximately one and a half hours, generally in the afternoon. The class is designed for learning useful vocabulary and expressions in Spanish. Students have been able to write short paragraphs with the appropriate gender, number and verb conjugation in the present tense. We use books, newspapers, and tapes and magazines

Advanced Spanish Conversation Group
Held in a WBFN member's home, this group meets once each week for approximately two hours. Its main objective is to read and discuss books and short stories by Spanish writers. Partipcants also enjoy other activities such as attending plays and musicals, visiting museums. The participants of the group come from different countries. Additionally the group has helped newcomers in their adjustment to life in the Washington area; and to all members, it offers an opportunity to develop new friendships. Click here for more details.
