A WBFN member journey's through Juvenile Diabetes
HOLA!

We are the Valencia Ibarra family, Ana, Hector and baby Alexia. We have been living in Washington for almost two years; coming from Mexico.
Our family started this year with joy and different goals. Well… I would love to share one of my projects with you. This is going to be in October. Even though it looks far away in the future, time goes fast!

This year, I'll be taking part in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk to Cure Diabetes along with a half-million other walkers across the country. Our goal: To raise awareness and help raise funds for research for a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications.

Type 1, or juvenile, diabetes, is a devastating, often deadly disease that affects millions of people—a large and growing percentage of them children, unfortunately, one of them is our daughter Alexia. She is now 16 months old and was diagnosed a day after her first birthday.
That's the bad news…and yes, it's pretty bad. The good news, though, is that a cure for type 1 diabetes is within reach. In fact, JDRF funding and leadership is associated with most major scientific breakthroughs in type 1 diabetes research to date. And JDRF funds a major portion of all type 1 diabetes research worldwide, more than any other charity.
Our baby Alexia will be cured soon! We are sure, but we have to work hard in many different ways, as a team and individually. This experience has been a great opportunity to learn that love is the most important tool in life.

Our family is registered to participate in the walk that will be organized on May 7th at the National Mall in DC. We are registered under my husband's name, Hector, but we are going to participate as a group. We invite you to join our group in the Walk to Cure Diabetes! If you are interested in joining us please contact us at ibarravalencia@gmail.com
