MMMF LogoThe Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund (MMMF) awards educational grants to women from developing countries whose graduate studies and future plans aim to benefit women and children in their respective regions. Commitment to this goal is an essential selection criterion.

affiliated with the World Bank Family Network. Many World Bank spouses volunteer yearly to raise funds for these grants.

Through fundraising events, most notably its annual MMMF International Arts & Crafts Fair, and through direct appeals and fund management the MMMF continues to grow. It is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit charity based in Washington DC. Contributions are tax deductible in the U.S. under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

In 1983 the MMMF awarded its first grant. Since then, the MMMF has helped 132 women from 57 developing countries pursue graduate studies in the U.S. and Canada. In 2005 the MMMF began exploring ways to expand its scholarship program to include study in developing country universities. In FY08, pilot grants were awarded to two students studying in South Africa.
“A Living Legacy”—MMMF Story and  Historical Highlights

WHO'S WHO
The MMMF was founded in 1981 to honor the memory of Margaret Craig McNamara (1915-1981), the wife of Robert S. McNamara, President of the World Bank from 1968 to 1981.
b-pThe MMMF Board of Directors appoints officers for the Fund, makes policy and raises funds. Its primary fundraiser is an International Arts & Crafts Fair held each fall at the World Bank.
b-pMMMF Selection Committee and MMMF Selection Panel: MMMF grant recipients are painstakingly culled from many worthy applicants, in a process conducted by the MMMF Selection Committee. Applications of the top candidates are then referred to the Selection Panel which makes the final recommendations.
