Eric Swanson, a US national, is program manager and leader of the Global Monitoring Cluster in the World Bank’s Development Data Group. He leads a team which produces the World Development Indicators, the World Bank Atlas, and the World Bank’s online databases.
Before assuming his current position, he was an economist in the World Bank’s research department and later the International Economics department. He has worked on measuring progress in educational systems, trade and competitiveness, macroeconomic modeling, and improving statistical systems in developing countries.
Prior to joining the Bank he worked as a jury selection expert and a regional economic consultant.
Dr. Swanson attended Deep Springs College, the University of California at Berkeley, and the State University of New York at Buffalo, where completed his PhD in economics with an econometric study of the retention of literacy and numeracy skills by Egyptian primary school students.
