Jamal Saghir is Director, Energy, Transport and Water, in the Sustainable Vice Presidency (SDNVP) of the World Bank and Chair of the Energy and Mining Sector Board, Transport Sector Board, and Water Sector Board. The position also includes management of the network functions for the Energy, Transport, and Water sectors Bank-wide. Mr. Saghir joined the Bank in 1990 as a Financial Officer in the Private Sector Financial Operations Group of the Co-financing and Financial Advisory Services. He worked on a variety of private sector development, privatization and restructuring assignments in projects and sector work in Africa, Latin America, the CIS countries and the Middle East and North Africa. In 1994, he joined the Middle East Country Department as a Senior Private Sector Development Specialist in the Industry and Energy Operations Division. He transferred to the Private Sector Development and Infrastructure Division in 1995 where he was promoted to Principal Private Sector Development Specialist in 1997. He was assigned to the Infrastructure Development Group in MENA in the 1997 reorganization, where he was promoted to Sector Leader for Urban Water and Sanitation in 1998.
