Gonzalo Castro, a Peruvian national, is team leader for biodiversity with the environment department of the World Bank. Previously, he was vice-president (acting) and director of the Latin American and Caribbean program of the World Wildlife Fund in Washington, D.C. Prior to that, he was founder and first CEO of Wetlands for the Americas, an international NGO (today Wetlands International). He was also a research associate with the Colorado State University, and an assistant professor of biology at Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Peru.
Mr. Castro holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Population Biology from the University of Pennsylvania and a M.Sc. from Cayetano Heredia University in Lima. He has written over 120 articles in scientific, technical, and popular magazines and journals and has spoken widely on environmental issues in four continents.
