With technical assistance from the government, slum-dwelling families near Nairobi, Kenya, build their own houses, learn new skills, and create their own community. The film portrays the experiences of a family that receives a plot of land as part of a successful urban development project. It also shows the development of small-scale businesses, schools, day-care centers and a crafts workshop.
