Slower Growth Undermines Poverty Reduction

December 11, 2002 — A new World Bank report released this week says a sluggish global economic outlook, and lower growth in the next 12 to 18 months will slow down the effort to reduce poverty in developing countries. Reasons for the slowdown include waning consumer confidence, high debt levels in a weak equity market, corporate financial scandals in the U.S, and debt problems in Latin America.
