Djibouti – HIV/AIDS, Malaria And Tuberculosis Control Project

Date: May 29, 2003
GRANT AMOUNT:  IDA—US$ 12.0  million
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this grant is to assist the Government of Djibouti in setting up and implementing the response against HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, malaria and tuberculosis, which are important risk cofactors.  The project aims to contribute to the change in behavior of the Djiboutian population in order to contain or reduce the spread of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and to mitigate its impact on infected and affected persons and to contribute to the control of malaria and tuberculosis.  It will do so through a multi-sector approach by: (i) preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS by reducing transmission, in particular among high risk groups; (ii) expanding access to treatment of opportunistic illnesses and malaria; and (iii) supporting multi-sectoral, civil society and community initiatives for the prevention of HIV/AIDS and malaria, and the care of the people afflicted by these diseases.  For more information, please call Sereen Juma at (202) 473-7199, or e-mail Sjuma@worldbank.org  .
