Bolivia – Social Safety Net Structural Adjustment Credit

Date: June 18, 2003
 CREDIT AMOUNT:  IDA —US$35 million
TERMS
:  Grace period = 10 years; Maturity = 20 years
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
:  This credit is a critical part of the World Bank’s immediate response package to the current social and economic crisis.  While protecting the budgets of nine key health, education and social safety net programs from reductions over a 9-10-month period, the credit will also finance improvements in social services, with an emphasis on poor citizens in remote areas.  At the same time, the National Plan for Emergency Employment (PLANE) will provide jobs to unskilled workers, most of them women. Another urgent goal is to address the causes of a school enrollment decline among the poorest children during the past two years.  For more information, please call Christopher Neal at(202)-473-7229, fax at 522.3698, or e-mail Cneal1@worldbank.org
