Specialization: Mr. Ravallion specializes on the measurement of poverty and inequality in developing countries, the design and evaluation of anti-poverty policies and the distributional impacts of economy-wide policies more generally. He has worked in all regions of the developing world, but the countries he has worked the most on are Argentina, Bangladesh, China, India and Indonesia.

Martin Ravallion, a national of Australia, is the research manager in the World Bank’s Development Research Group. His main research interests over the last 20 years have concerned poverty and the policies for fighting it. He has advised numerous governments and international agencies on this topic, and he has written extensively on this and other subjects in economics, including two books and over 150 papers in scholarly journals and edited volumes.
Mr. Ravallion holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the London School of Economics (L.S.E.), and has taught at L.S.E., Oxford University, the Australian National University, and Princeton University.
