| Shirin Ebadi, 2003 Nobel Peace Laureate, will speak about "Human Rights And Economic Development," as part of the World Bank’s Presidential Fellows Lecture Series.
Ebadi, an Iranian lawyer and human rights activist, served as one the first female judges in Iran and is founder of the Society for the Protection of Children’s Rights and the Center for the Defense of Human Rights. In 1996 Human Rights Watch honored Ebadi as a leading human rights defender for her contribution to the cause of human rights in Iran. She currently works as a lawyer and teaches at the University of Tehran, while continuing her fight for human rights particularly those of women and children.
In her speech, Ebadi will share her views on the link between human rights and economic development. Welcoming remarks will be made by World Bank President, James Wolfensohn.
