Maurice Schiff is a Lead Economist in the International Trade Unit, Development Research Group. He is currently directing the Research Program on International Migration, where he has published (as of Sept. 2008) of a large number of articles and three books (International Migration, Remittances and the Brain Drain (2006), International Migration, Economic Development & Policy (2007), and The International Migration of Women (2007)). Mr. Schiff is also currently involved in research on the impact of trade, FDI and ICT on North-South knowledge spillovers and productivity growth in the South. Mr. Schiff has also co-directed a Research Program on Regional Integration and Development, and a Research Project on the Political Economy of Agricultural Pricing Policy, both of which resulted in numerous publications. His work has included policy analysis and advice on trade, labor market and agricultural policy in the Dominican Republic, Mauritius, Morocco, Nicaragua, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, and other countries in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa. He obtained a B.A. and M.A. from the Hebrew University and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1983. Before joining the World Bank, he was Research Director in the Faculty of Economics and Management at the University of Concepcion, Chile.
