Sudhir Shetty, a U.S. national of Indian origin, has been Sector Manager of the Poverty Reduction Group in the Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Vice Presidency since September 2001.    This group is the central policy unit that oversees the Bank’s poverty reduction efforts, including support to the formulation and implementation of Poverty Reduction Strategies in low-income countries. 

 

Mr. Shetty joined the World Bank in 1987.  During his time at the Bank, he has worked on a number of low-and middle-income countries in East Asia and Eastern and Southern  Africa, and was a member of the core team that prepared the 1992 World Development Report, “Development and the Environment”.

 

Prior to joining the Bank, Mr. Shetty was an Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Economics at Duke University.
