Asli Demirguc-Kunt, a Turkish national, joined the Bank in 1989 as a Young Economist. Currently, she is the Senior Research Manager for Finance and Private Sector in the Bank’s Research Department and advises on operations on financial sector. Ms. Demirguc-Kunt has been in different divisions of the Research Group, working on external finance and domestic financial sector issues. Her recent research has focused on banking crises, financial regulation, stock markets, corporate finance and the impact of financial structure on economic growth. Ms. Demirguc-Kunt holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in economics from the Ohio State University. Prior to coming to the Bank, she was an Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.
