| BEIJING, CHINA, October 17, 2005 -- World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz, and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao today agreed that a strong relationship between the World Bank and China was important -- for China, for the Bank, and also for other developing countries. The Premier also thanked Mr. Wolfowitz for the Bank’s many years of strong support, noting that this year marked the 60th anniversary of the founding of the World Bank, 25 years since China rejoined the Bank, and the 20th anniversary of the Bank’s office in Beijing. Mr. Wolfowitz told the Premier in a meeting at Zhongnanhai in Beijing that the Bank wanted to support China in its continued efforts to help the 150 million poor people in the country to be part of China’s growing prosperity.
