Strong leadership and ethics are the missing link in governance reform, according to the organizers of the first World Ethics Forum, to be held at Oxford University from April 9th – 12th. Organized by the World Bank, the International Institute for Public Ethics (IIPE), the United Nations University, UK’s Department for International Development (DFID), Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), US Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Integrity Institute of Malaysia (IIM), the Forum will focus on leadership, ethics and integrity in public life by bringing together individuals and leaders who have made significant contributions to improving governance in their countries, and have demonstrated exemplary leadership in the public sector, civil society, media, or local communities. Speakers include, among others, Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and current Director of the Ethical Globalization Initiative; Huguette Labelle, Chair of Transparency International; Frannie Leautier, World Bank Vice President and head of the World Bank Institute(WBI); Eduardo Rodriguez, President of the Supreme Court of Bolivia and Former Interim President; Emile Short, UN Tribunal on Rwanda, Former Chair of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice for Ghana; John Githongo, former Permanent Secretary, Governance and Ethics, Kenya; Pulitzer Prize winning Nigerian journalist, Dele Olojede; and Sanjay Pradhan, Director of the World Bank’s Public Sector Governance Group.
