The Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) is an international partnership to help the poor gain sustained access to improved water and sanitation services. WSP is contributing to reach the   Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for water and sanitation, which include reducing by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation by 2015.

WSP operates in Honduras through its sub-regional office for Central America, located at the World Bank Resident Mission in the capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa. WSP has a wide range of engagements in Honduras; among its core activities are:

  • Assisting the Honduran water sector authorities in carrying out the sector reform and modernization processes and implementing the Water and Sanitation framework law, passed in 2003.
  • Supporting the authorities in improving and strengthening information systems for the water and sanitation sector.
  • Developing, in cooperation with other sector authorities, a road map to achieve the MDGs in water and sanitation.
  • Supporting the authorities in exploring sustainable technical solutions and management models to assist the urban poor in the shantytowns of Tegucigalpa.
  • Documenting and disseminating best practices, as well as producing knowledge management products to boost information exchange and knowledge promotion among the sector authorities and professionals in Honduras.
