April 14, 2007 — African Finance Ministers have praised Paul Wolfowitz's championship of Africa and his fight against corruption during the World Bank/IMF Spring Meetings.

Speaking at a media conference of African Finance Ministers in Washington, Liberia's Finance Minister, Antoinette Sayeh, described Wolfowitz as providing "visionary leadership" and applauded his championship of Africa.

Rama Krishna Sithanen, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economic Development of Mauritius, told the media Wolfowitz had been very supportive of his country and had "done a good job."

At the same media conference, N'gandu Peter Magande, Minister of Finance and National Planning of Zambia, praised Wolfowitz's fight against corruption, adding that corruption was a "cancer" affecting development and poverty levels.

"Those high standards must be maintained and we want to live up to what he has made us believe - even for ourselves it is important for ourselves to keep those high standards."
