WASHINGTON, June 5, 2007 - The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:
IDA Grant: US$18.5 million
OBJECTIVE: The objective of the project is to enhance power trade within Greater Mekong Sub-Region with a view to also bring affordable grid-based electricity to selected provinces in Cambodia through import of power from Lao PDR and Vietnam. This will in turn strengthen regional cooperation and integration so that the sub-region can benefit from the development of Southeast Asia's natural resources and rapidly growing economies.
