WASHINGTON, September 11, 2007 - The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:
IDA GRANT: US$ 3.2 million
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In this Pacific Island country, where 84 per cent of people live in rural areas, rural services and infrastructure are poor, electricity only reaches 16 percent of the population and less than half of people have access to safe drinking water. This IDA grant seeks to improve living standards by involving local people and the public and private sectors in delivering more cost effective services and basic infrastructure while also increasing the capacity of agriculture institutions to deliver needed local services.
